Interior Painting for NYC Apartments

We paint apartment interiors in Manhattan, from a single room to a full repaint. Careful prep, clean lines and daily cleanup, with plaster repair and Level 5 smoothing handled by our own crew when walls need it.

What we paint: walls, ceilings, trim, doors and built-ins

A good repaint covers more than the walls. We paint walls and ceilings, baseboards, window and door casings, interior doors, radiator covers, built-in shelving and cabinetry in the same visit, so the whole room reads as one finished space instead of fresh walls against tired trim.

Before we start, we walk the apartment with you and write down the scope room by room: which surfaces, which colors, which sheens, and what repairs are needed. That written scope is what the estimate is based on.

Prep that decides the result

Most of the quality in a paint job is under the paint. Older Manhattan apartments have layers of paint, hairline plaster cracks, nail pops and failed patches. If those are only covered, they show through again within months.

We scrape loose paint, repair cracks and holes, sand, spot-prime the repairs and prime the surfaces that need it. Because plaster repair and skim coating are done by our own crew, we do not have to hand the wall to another trade before painting begins.

  • Patching and plaster repair
  • Caulking trim and gaps
  • Sanding between coats
  • Priming repairs, stains and bare surfaces

Finishes and sheens: matte to high-gloss

Sheen changes how a wall looks as much as color does. Matte hides small surface flaws and suits living rooms and bedrooms. Eggshell and satin are easier to wipe clean and work well in hallways, kitchens and children’s rooms. Semi-gloss and gloss suit trim and doors, and a high-gloss lacquer-look finish can give a dining room or entry a deep, reflective surface.

The glossier the finish, the more a wall’s flaws show. For high-sheen walls we recommend a smoother surface; see our skim coat and Level 5 page.

Working in occupied apartments and co-op or condo buildings

You do not need to move out. We work room by room, cover floors and furniture, seal off the work area and clean up daily so you can keep using the rest of the apartment.

Building rules affect scheduling: service-elevator booking, work-hour limits and paperwork requirements differ by building. Tell us what your building requires and we plan around it. For more on buildings and boards, see apartment painting in Manhattan co-ops and condos.

Our process

Every project follows the same steps so there are no surprises.

  1. Walkthrough, in person or from detailed photos
  2. Written scope and estimate
  3. Schedule confirmed with your building’s rules in mind
  4. Protect floors, furniture and fixtures
  5. Prep, prime and paint
  6. Final walk-through with you and touch-ups

When a wall needs more than paint

Sometimes the right answer is not another coat of paint. If walls are wavy, heavily textured or damaged, a smooth base comes first. If you want depth and texture, we also apply Venetian plaster and limewash and Roman clay, and we install wallpaper. One crew handling prep and finish means one point of contact and one schedule.

Frequently asked questions

How much does it cost to paint an apartment in Manhattan?

Ceiling height, wall condition, trim and millwork, finish and building rules affect price more than square footage. We give a written estimate after seeing the space or detailed photos.

How long does an apartment repaint take?

A one-bedroom typically takes several working days; building hours and elevator booking can extend that. We confirm the schedule in the estimate.

Do I need to move out?

No. We work room by room, seal off the work area and clean daily.

Can you handle co-op board paperwork?

Yes. Tell us what your building requires and we prepare our side of the paperwork.

Do you do accent walls and specialty finishes?

Yes. See our limewash, Venetian plaster and wallpaper pages.
